Couples seek counseling for a variety of issues : communication, infidelity, lack of trust, financial concerns, addiction. Partners experience feelings of anger, resentment and isolation at their inability to be heard and understood. One of the goals of therapy is to reestablish a safe connection between partners. Therapy allows each one to be heard and validated. Partners begin to understand the messages they are expressing and receiving from each other.

Each partner needs to understand the underlying messages which their communication contains and the ways in which it connects to childhood experiences of parental involvement. As they begin to grasp that the unconscious messages they have been expressing is about their unmet needs, they are more able acknowledge those parts which they have disowned. They become aware that they have unconsciously expected their partner to resolve them (i.e loneliness, insecurity, fear of abandonment, lack of trust, etc.).

Thus begins to emerge a clear picture of who they are and what their needs are. This clarity helps the couple communicate without a hidden agenda which leads to more realistic communications and a road map for a resolution of ongoing issues.

This work is accomplished with tools from Imago Relationship Therapy (see www.gettingtheloveyouwant.com for more information), Jungian concepts, Trauma therapy,Trauma Resolution Energy Therapy and Psycho-spiritual concepts.

Intensives

This is a focused type of therapy which is useful at times for long distance couples or to concentrate on a specific issue that calls for a more intense approach than a weekly session.

I design a format which specifically targets the issue the couple wishes to work on.

Where love rules, there is no will to power and where power predominates, love is lacking. The one is the shadow of the other.
